Sustainable Mobility Step by Step: An Exciting Meeting Behind Us”

The “1st Future of Sustainable Mobility Panel Program and Electric Vehicles Ecosystem” event, where we shared our vision for clean and innovative transportation of the future, took place on February 21, 2024, at the Istanbul Technical University Süleyman Demirel Cultural Center.

Hosted by the Sustainable Mobility Initiative Association and Istanbul Technical University, this special gathering examined the rapidly changing dynamics of the automotive sector and expectations for the future. With a wide range of participants from academics to industry stakeholders, valuable discussions were held on our sustainability and innovation vision.

Continuing to work towards a green and sustainable future, we believe that together, we will take bigger steps forward.

WRI Turkey's 10th Livable Cities Symposium Event

As SMI, we participated in the 10th Livable Cities Symposium, organized by WRI Turkey and sponsored by Kadıköy Municipality, with the support of the Consulates General of the Netherlands and Denmark in Istanbul, as well as the Marmara Municipalities Union. This year’s symposium, themed “The Path to Livable Cities Goes Through ‘Green’: Green Economy, Green Financing, Green Investment,” marked its tenth edition. During the symposium, four panel sessions were held, covering various topics including “Nordic Talks,” where experiences from Scandinavian countries were shared; “Zero Carbon Buildings National and Local Action Plan,” discussing developments in energy efficiency legislation in Turkey; “Circular Cities,” exploring urban applications of the circular economy; and “Green Financing,” which examined sustainable city projects in Turkey by the EU, World Bank, and EBRD, as well as discussions on sustainable mobility and future investment perspectives. Speakers in different sessions emphasized the crucial role of private sector participation in sustainability projects to make a tangible impact in cities.

SMI-GSU Sustainable Mobility Chair" Protocol Signed

As SMI, we have partnered with GSU to contribute to the integration of transportation systems and create opportunities for the development of innovative solutions. Through the joint protocol established under the “GSU-SMI Sustainable Mobility Chair,” collaborative efforts between industry and university will be undertaken to develop human and environmentally-focused transportation systems. In this context, projects will be implemented to enhance the infrastructure of smart transportation systems and ensure sustainable smart mobility. The activities conducted under the chair aim to provide solutions to urbanization, excessive traffic congestion, and climate crises caused by environmental pollution. Research will focus on creating a livable environment and an informed community, as well as ensuring data sharing and security. The projects conducted through the collaboration of SMI and GSU aspire to make a significant contribution to sustainable mobility.

Heading to a Sustainable Future" Event in Collaboration with Özyeğin University

The event took place on March 28, 2022, at the Çekmeköy Campus, with Ambassador Meyer-Landrut of the European Union as a speaker. Topics such as smart urbanization and mobility were addressed by Ambassador Meyer-Landrut, SMİ Founder and Renault Group Turkey CEO Hakan Doğu, and Özyeğin University TTO and Entrepreneurship Director Dr. İsmail Arı. The Ambassador stated the European Union’s goal of reducing emission rates by 55% within the next 10 years, emphasizing the need for innovative solutions and collaborations between civil society and academia.

Embarking on our journey as an independent think tank, our goal is to
shape the future of urban transportation systems in Turkey and develop

Francophone Career Forum Event

During the Francophone Career Forum Event, discussions were held on the business-innovation ecosystem between large corporations and startups, as well as various collaboration models that could be effective. As SMI, we will continue our efforts to prepare young people, especially university students, for the future in terms of sustainable mobility.

The International Day of Clean Air Launch Event: "Green Transformation in Transportation Project"

On September 7, 2022, the launch event of the “Green Transformation in Transportation Project” took place at the Istanbul Commerce University conference hall. This event was organized by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change of the Republic of Turkey as part of The International Day of Clean Air, themed “the air we share.” During the event, Professor Dr. Alper Ünal, one of the founding members of SMİ (Smart Mobility Institute), served as the moderator for the panel titled “The Impact of Bicycle Usage on Clean Air and the Environment for Livable Cities.” He made valuable remarks regarding the impact of air pollution and the importance of reducing emissions in the transportation sector.
